I was thinking the other day whilst cleaning the bathroom “This is rubbish,can’t believe my life has resorted to being a housewife cleaning the toilet bowl with cillit bang in a tracksuit” (Cillit bang, for the record is amazing LOL!) I had a moment of realization, when I am cleaning I go off into a active meditation state, running through in my head issues I need to address and how to overcome them. This got me thinking, instead of looking at chores negatively I could actually use the time as ‘ Karma Yoga’
Karma Yoga is described in the sanskrit text Bhagavad Gita as ‘discipline of action’ or yoga of the selfless. Swami Sivananda advises us to ‘give your hands to work and keep your mind fixed at the lotus feet of the lord’ According to the website www.sivanada.org the right attitude is what counts. ‘ It’s the attitude while doing it that determines if a job is a Karma yoga job (Ie – Liberating or binding) Use the work to mean something, In my case the active meditation helps me muddle through my thoughts. So as I clean my Bathroom etc I will remember that I am doing it for my family in order for them to stay healthy and happy and have a welcoming, clean, warm home.
Don’t get me wrong, I’d still rather be in Costa Coffee and I’d love to have a cleaner but just for now I am making the best of what I do have. Love & Light Kat xxx
